We have an exciting opportunity within the Operations Directorate. Avanti West Coast is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as the Senior Resources Manager. In this pivotal role, you will enhance the efficiency and productivity of our Frontline Colleagues to meet our operational needs of our business as we strive for Operational Excellence.

You will create a team culture of support, encouragement, challenge, and engagement, ensuring all stakeholders understand their responsibilities and know where to seek help. You will continuously monitor and review the effectiveness of the Resources team, making necessary adjustments to align with business requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Team Culture: Create a supportive and engaging team culture where all stakeholders understand their responsibilities and know where to seek help.
  • Effectiveness Monitoring: Continuously monitor and review the effectiveness of the Resources team, making necessary adjustments to align with business needs.
  • Workforce Planning: Support the Driver, On Board, and Stations teams with long-term workforce planning, ensuring adequate headcount for operational needs such as timetable specifications and customer propositions.
  • Stakeholder Management: Lead stakeholder management on resourcing issues, ensuring Directors, senior managers, and the Department for Transport (DfT) receive productivity data in agreed formats and timescales.
  • Resource Planning Tools: Enable the implementation of frontline colleague resource planning tools, working with the Systems Integration Manager to ensure these tools are modern and fit for purpose.

  • Interpersonal Sensitivity: High level of interpersonal sensitivity and excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships at all levels.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make decisions based on factual information and numerical analysis.
  • Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills, able to stand ground under pressure and understand others' perspectives.
  • Listening: Effective listening skills, prioritising understanding before being understood.
  • Leadership: Proven track record in leading teams and managing people and processes.
