Job description

Join us as a Driver Trainer and help shape the next generation of train drivers. As we continue to invest in our people, technology and operational excellence, we are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to deliver high-quality training and assessment across our Pendolino and Hitachi fleets. 

 This is a unique opportunity to influence standards, support driver development and contribute directly to the safe and reliable operation of one of the UK's leading rail operators.

 About the role:

As a Driver Trainer, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping the future of rail travel. You’ll design and develop comprehensive training materials, ensuring they meet all legislative requirements and align with the standards set by Operational Safety. You will deliver training and assess competence through a range of methods, including classroom delivery, computer-based assessments, written examinations, simulator exercises, and practical competence assessments, helping to ensure the highest standards of safety and operational performance are maintained.

Your attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of our training programmes, assessment methods, and learning resources. You will play an important role in developing operational competence, supporting the introduction of new initiatives, and ensuring our training provision continues to meet the needs of the business while maintaining the highest standards of safety and performance.

 You will be able to demonstrate: 

  • A solid understanding of railway Rules and Regulations, with a minimum of 3 years’ train driving and driver management experience.

  • Familiarity with Avanti West Coast traction and Personal Track Safety.

  • NVQ Assessor and Verifier qualifications (A1 and V1 or equivalent), or be working towards them.

  • NVQ Level 10, 11, or 12 (or equivalent) training qualifications, or be working towards them.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong eye for detail.

Proficiency in using digital learning platforms, training technologies, and Microsoft Office applications
